Mr. Anthony is the Head Military Acculturation Advisor (MAA) for Kapsuun Group working in support of the Royal Saudi Air Forces 30 billion dollar F-15SA program. The Saudi Arabian government has purchased 70 F-15SA Fighter Aircraft; and, in order to maintain them, they must train airmen to help maintain this aircraft. First, the students must learn English to communicate effectively through training. They must, then, attend and pass their F-15 Tech School before returning to Saudi Arabia to work for their country’s Air Force.
On a daily basis, he manages 11 Military Acculturation Advisors (MAAs) in the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and accountability of the RSAF airman, who attend English Language Training here at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. He, also, provides the RSAF Chain of Command advice and courses of action for issues or problems that may arise during training.
Mr. Anthony’s MAAs conduct accountability formations three times a day, ensuring that they are at the right place, in the right uniform, and on time to class. This task is similar to that of a civilian drill Sergeant. The MAAs manage all of all their needs: personal, financial, medical, academic, and disciplinary. We try to facilitate all of their needs to lessen the airmen’s stress, while working hard towards their primary mission of learning to speak and comprehend the English language here Sheppard AFB.

Mr. Russell Horton, is an Oklahoma native and military retiree with 25 years of service. He’s married to Avelina with four daughters and eight grandchildren. His previous experience has been in retail management, call center management, recruiting and staffing. Nothing is too out of the ordinary for this guy. As he says, “I like a good challenge and to be taken outside of my comfort zone so this job fits the bill! One never knows what to expect from day-to-day and that keeps me on my toes!”
KG ELT Support Library
ELT Support Library
The Kapsuun Group ELT Library provides an on-site resource for students to improve their English Language and reading skills. There are a variety of books available in the library for students and staff to borrow, including a selection of graded readers – books divided into several reading levels that include word lists and review activities. Some of these graded readers are available as audio books. The library also has books on the U.S. military and aircraft, history, science, and other nonfiction topics, as well as Grammar books, Speaking and Listening books, and English-Arabic dictionaries. There is also a small collection of word games and DVDs on American history for classroom use. The Library has a website that students and staff can use to view the library collection online. In addition to checking out books, students can use the media labs to strengthen their listening skills. All computers are installed with listening activity software that can be used with students’ American Language Course books. Students attend the media labs with their ELT instructors regularly.

Krista moved here to work with the RSAF ELT Program in 2014. She really enjoys working with the students. She has learned a lot about Saudi culture. At work, when she is not teaching students, she likes collaborating with other teachers. She also appreciates learning from other teachers.
KG RSAF ELT Operations Room
ELT Operations Room
The Kapsuun Group RSAF ELT Operations Room at Sheppard AFB is set up to provide 24/7 on-site oversight, management, and accurate accountability of approximately 200 Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) English Language Training (ELT) International Military Students (IMS). There is 24 hour emergency/after-hours phone support with a minimum of 2 military acculturation adviser/leaders at the dormitory at all times. This space is where our military acculturation advisers and leaders gather to perform duties in mentoring the cadets in developing military attitudes, bearing, and behavior.

Mr. Samuels is the Chief of English as a Second Language (ESL) for Kapsuun Group. He serves as the primary point of contact for all English Language Training (ELT) matters with the Royal Saudi Air Force Country Liaison Office at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Samuels’s academic team works very hard to provide ELT to RSAF Airmen. He manages an academic department comprised of:
* Certified ESL instructors who provide face-to-face instruction utilizing the United States Government (USG) Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) program of instruction called the American Language Course
* Library technician who maintains the learning library of 1500 items and media lab
* 41-terminal testing lab and Learning Center
The primary goal of ELT is to help the RSAF student to successfully attain their qualifying English Comprehension Level (ECL) score to go to follow-on training. The secondary goal and focus is geared towards assisting the RSAF students to not only pass the book quizzes (BQ) and the ECL test, but also to use English effectively in everyday communication while studying in the USA.
KG RSAF ELT Media Lab
ELT Media Lab
The KG RSAF ELT Media Labs provide an opportunity for students to gain additional listening and reading practice. Each computer is installed with listening programs that correspond to the students’ American Language Course (ALC) books. Computers also have access to online resources and links to websites useful for learning English. Students can use lab computers to listen to audio books checked out from the library as well.
All Students attend a mandatory one hour session in the media labs each week as part of their ELT class. Some students may also be assigned to additional hours in the lab for supplemental training. In addition, students may request to use the labs outside of classes and supplemental training for additional study.

Jenny Copus was born and raised in Bellingham, WA where she earned a BA in Human Services from Western Washington University. Soon after, she earned her MA in TESOL from Azusa Pacific University and spent six years teaching English in the capital city of Laos. After returning home to the U.S., she married Travis in 2013 and moved to Burkburnett, TX. Jenny joined the RSAF ELT team at Sheppard when it began in October 2014 and enjoys getting to work in a cross-cultural environment. She and Travis are expecting twins in early September this year-a girl and a boy!
KG RSAF ELT Administration Office
The Administration Office is where all the behind-the-scenes magic takes place. This is where our fearless leaders reside, supporting the Program Manager with daily tasks, relating to resources, manpower, facilities, policies, and other important tasks that keep the program running smoothly. Various other duties are performed as well, to include processing student pay, preparing students for classes, and student in-processing and out-processing.
The personnel based in this office are the Deputy Program Manager, Project Coordinator, Head MAA, Head of ELT Instruction, and Lead Instructors. They have become more than just an office crew…they have become a true work family, who work together for the welfare of the student.

Hilary is a returning instructor from the last contract, who is from Wichita Falls. Upon meeting, she has a warm, kind smile. One of the best parts she’s found about working with the program is an interest in the Saudi Arabian culture. She spend a lot of time volunteering and enjoys spending time with family and friends. Hilary has a love of reading and has read many books. The last book she read was “When Breath Becomes Air” by Paul Kalanithi.

Al started his career many years ago as an engineer, but has always worked with computers. Every job he has ever held has somehow evolved into working with computers. His first teaching experience was for AT&T, teaching other employees how to use computers. His final position with AT&T was doing financial analysis reports for the consumer Vice Presidents.
Al retired for the first time in 2000 and moved to Las Vegas to teach Math and Science, but enjoyed working with ESL students. He was asked to start a pilot program teaching Math and Science to ESL students. Al received his masters in TESOL at the age of 62, as he would say, “you never stop learning.”
Al is currently the Senior ESL Instructor at Sheppard AFB. This job entails keeping the school running efficiently, making sure the Lead Instructors and the instructors have what they need on a daily basis. He maintains the student database, keeping it current with all the scheduling and testing that goes on every week. Al produces various reports including the Progress Reports, Progress Charts, Scheduling, and all testing reports. According to Al, “The most enjoyable part of my job is working with the staff and getting to know all the new students.”
ECL Testing Lab

Previous students may recognize this location as the place where they took the American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT), but this lab has been revamped to accommodate online English Comprehension Level (ECL) testing. The ECL testing lab consists of 40 computers that Mr. Ray McCullum keeps in prime condition for the program. This lab has the capability to accommodate Interactive Media Instruction (IMI) as well as new software to enhance the students’ English language learning experience. It promotes self-learning through supplemental language training. Future plans are to use it as a learning center with a full-time staff technician.

Since she began teaching in the Sheppard ELT program in 2014, Lois Dubray has earned a reputation as grammar diva and helping students achieve high scores on their book quizzes. We appreciate the way she welcomes new teachers, remembers birthdays, and the way a room sparkles after she’s done cleaning it! She speaks English and French and has one daughter, who is an accomplished writer. She was born in Cleveland, OH but lived in Kentucky and Washington, D.C. for 21 and 10 years, respectively. She enjoys traveling, reading, classic movies, visiting the museum and animals and would, one day, really enjoy visiting the Grand Canyon, New England, and Quebec. As a young woman, Lois survived a tornado in Kentucky that killed hundreds of people and caused destruction across four states. The best part about working at ELT for Lois is meeting the students and learning about their culture.

Jimmy served two years in the first RSAF ELT contract here at Sheppard Air Force Base. At first, Jimmy seems to be a very quiet individual; but, as you get to know him, you realize that he’s a hard and dedicated worker. He is here to help teach, coach, and mentor all of our students attending ELT. Jimmy served and retired from the US ARMY after 25 years, which is a blessing. He brings a plethora of military experience to our team, our mission, and our goal of making this program a success. Additionally, he is deeply devoted to his family and is a former Golden Gloves boxing champion. As a valuable member of our MAA team, we depend on his experience, leadership, and guidance to help the ELT program here at Sheppard Air Force Base to be a success.
Ray McCullum, IT Technician

Filling a “one-deep” IT position for ELT, Ray takes care of all computer and smartboard maintenance issues for up to 34 teachers. He also maintains four media labs that have seven computers each. He recently led the installation of a 41 terminal testing center that is also utilized as a learning center for supplemental language training. Additionally, he oversees the care and maintenance of our staff’s computers and printers. If that’s not enough, he answers calls for any Spectrum WiFi problems in four different buildings. Ray has been with the program since its inception in October 2014.

Steve brings a lot to our Team, our mission, and our goal of making this program a success. When we need help we can always go to him for some senior advice on how to make this program better for all of us. He gives 110 percent all of the time can be counted on to get any mission assigned to him completed in a timely manner! Steve successfully completed 30 years of active duty in our USAF, a tough feat to do, given all of the current changes in our military today.

Grace has been a wonderful asset to the ELT program. Anytime you need someone for a project, she’s always willing to lend a hand. She has a wonderful, accommodating attitude with a bright spirit and a smile that lights up the room. As our “vocabulary guru”, she looks for new ways to improve student learning. Grace has been with the program for more than two years, leading our young Saudi airmen to success. She enjoys reading, hiking, and kayaking in her spare time, and she loves to sing! One of the things she loves about working with this program is getting to know her coworkers and students. She feels that “everyone has a story”, and she couldn’t be more correct!

Saki has been with the program since it began in Oct of 2014. She’s stayed so long because she enjoys working with the students. They have wonderful personalities; every day is new and interesting. As a lead instructor, she’s taken on a lot of responsibility, including creating and/or delegating the creation of, the majority of forms on our Shared Drive. She has proven herself to be super organized and, for some strange reason, enjoys organizing. In her spare time, she likes to read, listen to music, and watch horror movies.

Our amazing program manager came to us from San Antonio and has had no problem becoming a part of our ELT family! Joe is a huge fan of standup comedy and has a memory like an elephant. Some may refer to his memory as an iron bear trap! This, alone, allows him the capability to provide his staff with an endless stream of the corniest jokes known to mankind. His brain hold factoids about movies from all genres and generations. An anonymous source (Al haha) states that he’s seen Joe try to hit a bank shot off the wall and is convinced that Joe is no Tim Duncan, Mr. Fundamental! Along with an extensive collection of jokes, he’s an experienced leader with the solutions.
